“You Belong with Me” racconta la storia di un grande amore che sfida avversità, differenze e il passare del tempo. Elena e Archer si conoscono da giovanissimi e, con un colpo di testa, decidono di sposarsi.
Ma Elena fa parte di una potente famiglia malavitosa ed è già promessa ad un altro uomo. Per questo devono separarsi. Elena fugge dalla sua famiglia e facciamo un salto temporale di dodici anni.
Questo passo in avanti così lungo fa credere al lettore che si troverà davanti dei personaggi nuovi, cresciuti e con sentimenti mutati. Ma non è così. La versione adulta di Elena e Archer è uguale a quella un po’ folle dell’adolescenza.
“La prima volta che l’ho fatto, pensavo che il mio amore per te non potesse essere più forte. Che non ti avrei mai amato più di quanto facevo in quel momento. Ma mi sbagliavo, Elena. Ti amo più ora che mai e sei ancora la donna con cui voglio passare il resto della mia vita.”
Elena vive da sola, il suo spirito ribelle e libero non è mutato. La protagonista è ancora in conflitto con la sua famiglia, grazie all’aiuto dell’amata nonna. Archer è ancora determinato e sicuro, come anni prima. Vuole ancora lei e fa di tutto per trovarla.
I due s’incontrano dopo dodici anni ed è come se si riprendessero le fila della storia che avevano costruito da giovani. Naturalmente le avversità sono dietro l’angolo.
“Se mi chiede di restare stasera, non so se potrò dire di no.”
“You Belong with Me” è un romanzo molto emozionante. La storia d’amore tra i due protagonisti è dolce e incontrollabile. Entrambi scelgono di seguire il cuore, piuttosto che l’istinto di sopravvivenza. I caratteri dei due protagonisti sono fondamentalmente simili.
Entrambi coraggiosi, liberi e molto decisi. L’unico punto debole della trama è la reazione della famiglia di lei al loro ricongiungimento, che ho trovato un po’ inverosimile.
“Sei stata l’amore della mia vita sin da quando ero un ragazzino al liceo e ti vidi seduta con Stasia in mensa. Sei tutto, E, anche dopo tutto questo tempo. E questo non cambierà mai.”
Il romanzo è narrato con il doppio punto di vista dei protagonisti, che trovo azzeccato.
In generale “You Belong with Me” è da consigliare a chi ha voglia di leggere una storia d’amore intensa e i passaggi di una fiamma che si riaccende.

“You Belong with Me” tells the story of a great love that challenges odds, differences and the passage of time. Elena and Archer met when they were very young and, with a header, they decide to get married. But Elena is part of a powerful mafia family and is already betrothed to another man. So they must separate.
Elena runs away from her family and there is a twelve-year time jump in the plot. This long step forward makes the reader believe that he will be faced with new characters, grown up and with changed feelings. But it is not so. The adult version of Elena and Archer is the same as the bit crazy one of the adolescence.
“The first time I did this, I thought my love for you couldn’t be stronger. That I’d never love you more than I did in that moment. But I was wrong, Elena. I love you more now than ever before, and you’re still the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Elena lives alone, her rebellious and free spirit has not changed. The protagonist is still in conflict with her family, thanks to the help of her beloved grandmother. Archer is still as determined and confident as years before. He still wants her and does everything to find her.
“If he asks me to stay tonight, I don’t know if I’ll be able to say no.”
The two meet after twelve years and it is as if they pick up the thread of the story they had built years ago. Of course, the odds are just around the corner.
“You Belong with Me” is a very emotional novel. The love story between the two protagonists is sweet and uncontrollable. Both choose to follow the heart rather than the survival instinct. The characters of the two protagonists are fundamentally similar.
Both brave, free and very determined. The only weak point in the plot is the reaction of the family of Elena to their reunion, which I found a bit unlikely.
“You’ve been the love of my life since I was a junior in high school and I saw you sitting with Stasia in the cafeteria. You’re everything, E, even after all this time. And that won’t ever change.”
The novel is told from the double point of view of the protagonists, which I find apt.
In general “You Belong with Me” is recommended to those who want to read an intense love story and the passages of a recovered love.

Elena Watkins è abituata a ottenere ciò che vuole. È cresciuta come la figlia di uno dei più potenti boss mafiosi della costa occidentale, una ragazza ricca e soddisfatta che è riuscita a cavarsela con tutto.
Tranne l’amore della sua vita.
Archer era il re del loro liceo. Il suo sorriso affascinante le ha fatto perdere la testa. Qualche giorno dopo del diploma, sono scappati insieme e sono fuggiti. Euforici di trascorrere il resto della loro vita insieme, Archer ed Elena erano al settimo cielo.
Fino a quando il padre di Elena non ha scoperto cosa avevano fatto.
Aveva giurato di tenerli separati, anche se ciò significava uccidere Archer. Sapendo di cosa era capace suo padre, Elena lasciò Archer e non si voltò mai più indietro. Il dolore di lasciarlo era nulla rispetto a quello di perderlo.
È quello che lei si ripete ogni giorno da dodici anni. Ma ora suo padre è morto e Archer è tornato. Potrebbero rimettere insieme i pezzi rotti del loro amore.
Ma la mafia ha una lunga memoria.
