Unknown – Charlotte Byrd
“Unknown” è un romanzo autoconclusivo di Charlotte Byrd. Ho letto molte serie di quest’autrice e, in questo caso, ho apprezzato la scelta di concentrare tutta la storia in un solo volume.
Il titolo “Unknown” dà già il contesto della narrazione, l’autrice racconta una storia d’amore, che però conserva una base di mistero.
Avery è diversa. Così diversa, infatti, mi spaventa. Torno alla macchina con i brividi che mi corrono lungo la schiena. Cos’è questo? Ansia? Paura? Non mi sono mai sentito così per un’altra persona prima d’ora.
Avery e Logan sono sconosciuti, infatti tra di loro tutto nasce da un incontro al buio. La chimica è istantanea e nasce subito la passione, in seguito i sentimenti. Ma resta sempre qualcosa di non detto.
Il protagonista nasconde un segreto che verrà svelato solo nella parte finale di “Unknown”.
Invece di una persona, un essere umano, diciamo “bersaglio”. Invece di uccidere o assassinare, diciamo “eliminare”.
Ho trovato la trama accattivante. La scelta di mettere a conoscenza il lettore del segreto di Logan e di tenerlo così a lungo celato alla protagonista, costringe a girare le pagine. Il punto di vista alternato della narrazione aiuta proprio a entrare nelle idee e nei dubbi sia di Logan, che di Avery.
La lettura è molto scorrevole e l’autrice riesce a trasmettere molto bene la passione che si accende tra i due protagonisti.
Alcuni lati del personaggio di Logan, invece, li ho trovati un po’ deludenti. Viene presentato come un miliardario, che non si lega in nessuna relazione, ma con Avery nasce subito un rapporto, senza nessuna esitazione da parte sua.
Le ho davvero appena detto che l’amo? Non ho mai detto quelle parole a nessuno in vita mia. Beh, nessuno tranne mia madre, mio padre e i miei fratelli.
Sicuramente non a una ragazza. Ma Avery non è solo una ragazza. È una fidanzata. Wow, anche quella parola, fidanzata mi fa rizzare i capelli sulla nuca.
Sembra così ufficiale.
La parte finale di “Unknown” vede un cambio di ritmo e di scenario, che viene gestito proficuamente dall’autrice, che rende in generale la trama molto credibile.

“Unknown” is a self-contained novel by Charlotte Byrd. I have read many series by this author and, in this case, I have appreciated the choice to concentrate the whole story in a single volume.
The title “Unknown” already gives the context of the plot, in which there is a love story, that always preserves a part of mystery.
Avery is different. So different, in fact, it’s frightening me. I walk back to my car with shivers running down my spine. What is this? Anxiety? Fear? I’ve never felt this way about another person before.
Avery and Logan are unknown, in fact, everything between them comes from a blind date. The chemistry is instantaneous, the passion is immediate, then feelings. But there is always something unspoken.
The protagonist hides a secret that will be revealed only in the final part of “Unknown”.
Instead of a person, a human being, we say ‘target.’ Instead of kill or murder or assassinate, we say ‘eliminate’.
I found the plot captivating. The choice to make the reader aware of Logan’s secret and to keep it hidden from Avery for so long, forces to turn the pages. The alternating point of view of the novel makes the reader enter into the ideas and doubts of both Logan and Avery.
The reading is very fluent and the author transmits the passion, that there is between the two protagonists very well. Logan’s character, on the other hand, I found a bit disappointing.
He is presented as a billionaire, who doesn’t bind in any relationship, but with Avery there is a immediately connection, without any hesitation on his part.
Did I really just tell her that I loved her? I’ve never said those words in my life to anyone. Well, not anyone except my mom, dad and siblings.
Definitely not to a girl. But Avery isn’t just a girl. She’s a girlfriend. Wow, even that word, girlfriend makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
It sounds so official.
In the final part of “Unknown” there is a change of pace and scenario, that is handled properly by the author, who makes the plot looking very credible.
