Cari readers, questa settimana vi parlerò del libro “Wild Child” che fa parte della serie “Soul Sister Novel”, dell’autrice americana Audrey Carlan.
Purtroppo, al momento potete trovare questo e gli altri racconti, solo in lingua originale, ma spero che presto possiate conoscere e appassionarvi alle vicende della protagonista e delle sue sorelle.
Ci troviamo a Chicago e Simone, una bellissima ragazza sulla trentina, indipendente e piena di sogni, ci racconta la sua storia e la notte che, quando vengono sparati due colpi di pistola, ha cambiato la sua vita per sempre, in prima persona, come se stesse parlando direttamente col lettore.
“I sogni si avverano ogni giorno. Tutto quello che devi fare è lavorare sodo e fare del bene nell’Universo. Alla fine, il karma arriverà”
Trovare il vero amore, soprattutto ai giorni nostri, dove tutto è fatto di incontri effimeri, chat e APP di appuntamenti, sembra quasi impossibile, ma Simone ci crede ancora con tutta sé stessa. E proprio quando meno se lo aspetta, il suo destino si manifesta attraverso il sexy e tenebroso agente dell’FBI Jonah Fontaine.
In una sera come tutte le altre, il suo peggior incubo e il più bel sogno si scontrano, in un vortice dal quale sarà doloroso uscire.
“Incontrare quest’uomo, sopravvivere a quella che poteva essere un’orribile tragedia, ha cambiato tutto quello che sapevo in una sera. Era il momento di vivere per me. Fare il lavoro che volevo e afferrarlo con tutto quello che avevo dentro di me.”
Dalle prime pagine di Wild Child capisco che non si tratta del solito romance, ma vengo letteralmente catapultata in una puntata di uno dei miei Crime preferiti senza dimenticare il vero filo conduttore della storia e della serie: l’amore che ci lega ad una sorella.
Che sia questa di sangue o per scelta non importa, Simone sa che niente e nessuno potrà mai spezzare quel filo indissolubile, nemmeno la peggiore delle tragedie.
La penna della Carlan è fluida, nessun dialogo è mai banale e riesce perfettamente a coinvolgerti mixando con maestria tematiche forti quali la perdita di una persona cara, la dipendenza da droga e alcol, il tradimento e l’amore, quello travolgente che ti spinge a fare cose che mai avresti pensato di poter fare.
“I miei capelli biondi volavano dappertutto. Indossavo una camicetta blu senza maniche e un cappello a tesa larga bordeaux che cercavo di non far volare via.
Un sorrisetto beffardo era stampato sulle mie labbra. Mi ricordai che Tabby aveva scattato quella foto quando eravamo in centro al Taste of Chicago, un festival gigantesco che si teneva ogni estate.
Passeggiavamo li in giro ammirando la vista sul lago Michigan quando Tabby ha iniziato a scattare foto. Sul mio petto, in un carattere super cool, c’erano le parole WILD CHILD. L’immagine mi ricordava la copertina di un libro fighissimo”.

Dear readers, this week I will talk about the book “Wild Child” which is part of the series “Soul Sister Novel”, by American author Audrey Carlan.
Unfortunately, at the moment you can find this and the other stories, only in the original language, but I hope you will get to know and love the story of the protagonist and her sisters really soon.
We are in Chicago and Simone, a beautiful girl in her thirties, independent and full of dreams, tells us her story and the night that, when two gunshots are fired, changed her life forever, in the first person, as if she were talking directly to the reader.
“Dreams come true every day. All you have to do is work hard and put the good out into the Universe. Eventually karma will come through.”
Finding true love, especially nowadays, where everything is made of “touch and go meetings”, chats and dating APPs, seems almost impossible, but Simone still believes in it with all her inner soul.
And just when she least expects it, her destiny manifests itself through the sexy and gloomy FBI agent Jonah Fontaine.
On an evening like any other, her worst nightmare and most beautiful dream collide, in a vortex from which it will be painful to get out.
“Meeting this man, surviving what could have been a horrible tragedy, changed everything I knew in one evening. It was time to live for me. Work toward what I wanted, and grab hold with everything I had inside of me.”
From the first pages of Wild Child I understood that this is not the usual romance, but I am literally catapulted into an episode of one of my favorite crime novels without forgetting the true thread of the story and the series: the love that binds us to a sister.
Whether this is by blood or by choice does not matter, Simone knows that nothing and no one can ever break that unbreakable bond, not even the worst of tragedies.
Carlan’s pen is fluent, no dialogue is ever trivial and manages to involve you perfectly mixing strong themes such as the loss of a loved one, drug and alcohol addiction, betrayal and love, the overwhelming love that pushes you to do things you never thought you could do.
“My blonde hair was blowing all over the place. I was wearing this baby blue button-up sleeveless shirt and a burgundy wide-brimmed hat that I was trying to keep from blowing away. A teasing smirk was plastered across my lips.
I remembered Tabby taking that picture when we were downtown at the Taste of Chicago, a huge festival that was held every summer. We were hanging out overlooking Lake Michigan when Tabby started taking pictures.
Across my chest in a super cool font were the words WILD CHILD. The image reminded me of a wicked cool book cover.”
