Cari readers, a quanti di voi è capitato di avere un colpo di fulmine? Di fare una pazzia e ritrovarvi completamente connessi con un’altra persona? Chi più chi meno, tutti stiamo annuendo difronte a questi semplici quesiti.
Questo è quello che accade ai due protagonisti di “Missing Pieces”, il terzo libro della Saga “Men of Manhattan” della autrice di bestseller americana Ivy Smoak.
Per chi come me non avesse letto i primi due volumi (prometto che recupererò quanto prima!), non preoccupatevi: sono tutti autoconclusivi, ma se pensate che sia la solita storia d’amore si sbaglierà di grosso (come la sottoscritta, lo ammetto, mea culpa): il viaggio di Tyler e Hailey non sarà solo lungo la famosa Route 66 ma sarà un vero e proprio viaggio di scoperta dentro se stessi e soprattutto di rinascita.
La vita spesso ci mette di fronte ad una scelta, il famoso bivio. C’è chi scappa per non affrontare le proprie paure ed insicurezze e chi le affronta andando contro tutti, anche le persone care.
“Mi sono voltato verso di lui. “Perché avevi bisogno di un cambiamento da New York?” “Perché sei saltata nella mia macchina e hai chiesto di essere portata in California?””
Nonostante Hailey e Tyler siano al centro della scena e accompagnino il lettore in questo viaggio on the road, sono i personaggi “secondari” ad avermi colpito maggiormente.
La scrittrice ha dato risalto alla cornice (il padre di Hailey, Elena, Penny) per arricchire il quadro. La maggior parte delle volte, ci si focalizza solo sulla storia d’amore, senza dare spazio o importanza alla vita che scorre intorno ad essa e alimenta la storia stessa.
“Mi ha spazzato via le lacrime di nuovo. “Se potessi, lo farei. Mi sto innamorando di te. Tutto quello che voglio fare è stare qui con te e dimenticare il mondo”.”
“Missing Pieces” è infatti molto di più: è un vero e proprio percorso di resilienza, di accettazione del dolore, di consapevolezza condito con un bel lieto fine.
Perché, nonostante la vita ci riservi sempre qualche brutto scherzo, è la forza di vivere la vita a pieno che la rende meravigliosa ed unica.
“Nessun bambino dovrebbe crescere pensando di essere la seconda scelta. Soprattutto non Hailey. Lei meritava il meglio. Meritava il mondo intero.
E, in qualche modo, nonostante tutto, Hailey era la persona più gentile che conoscessi. Aveva un cuore così grande. Era in grado di guardare oltre tutti i miei difetti e vedere il meglio di me. Non ero sicuro di meritarla, ma volevo meritarla.”
Consigliato a chi crede ancora nell’amore.

Dear readers, how many of you have had a love at first sight? Have you gone crazy and found yourself completely connected with another person? We are all nodding in front of these simple questions.
This is what happens to the two protagonists of “Missing Pieces“, the third book in the “Men of Manhattan” Saga by American bestselling author Ivy Smoak.
For those of you who, like me, haven’t read the first two volumes (I promise I’ll catch up as soon as possible!), don’t worry: they’re all standalone, but if you think it’s the usual love story, you’re sadly mistaken (like me, I admit, mea culpa): Tyler and Hailey’s journey will not only be along the famous Route 66 but will be a real journey of self-discovery and, above all, rebirth.
Life often puts us in front of a choice, the famous crossroads. There are those who run away not to face their fears and insecurities and those who face them going against everyone, even their loved ones.
“I turned back to him. “Why’d you need a change from New York?”
“Why’d you hop in my car and demand to be taken to California?””
Although Hailey and Tyler take center stage and accompany the reader on this road trip, it’s the “secondary” characters that impressed me the most.
The writer emphasized the frame (Hailey’s father, Elena, Penny) to enrich the picture. Most of the time, we focus only on the romance, without giving space or importance to the life that flows around it and feeds the story itself.
“He brushed my tears away again. “If I could, I would. I’m falling for you. All I want to do is stay right here with you and forget the world.””
“Missing Pieces” is in fact much more than that: it is a real journey of resilience, acceptance of pain, awareness seasoned with a beautiful happy ending.
Because, even though life always has some bad joke in store for us, it is the strength to live life to the full that makes it wonderful and unique.
“No kid should grow up thinking that they’re second best. Especially not Hailey. She deserved the best. She deserved the whole world.
And, somehow, despite everything, Hailey was the kindest person I knew. She had such a big heart. She was able to look past all my flaws and see the best in me. I wasn’t sure I deserved it, but I wanted to deserve her.”
Recommended for those who still believe in love.
