Cari readers, per rompere il ghiaccio voglio parlarvi del nuovo libro di Penelope Ward “The Crush”. Ammetto che é la prima volta che mi avventuro in una sua opera e per mio stupore ne sono stata completamente travolta.
La storia di “The Crush”, è ambientata nella calda e soleggiata Florida e tutto ruota intorno ai tre protagonisti: Farrah, suo fratello Nathan e il miglior amico di quest’ultimo Jace.
Pagina dopo pagina, la penna fluida e minuziosa della Ward ti trascina in un turbine di emozioni e drammi familiari, raccontati dal punto di vista di Farrah e Jace.
Il vero fil rouge è l’amore, quello più puro e sincero, quello che ci lega ad un familiare, ad un amico, al nostro primo amore.
“Se mi sto presentando come un po’ disperata per quest’uomo, beh, immagino che sia giusto. Ma considera il fatto che è stato la mia primissima cotta. La cotta. La mia unica cotta”.
Mi sono sentita fin da subito legata a Farrah: il suo dolore e la sua determinazione nel credere con tutta se stessa che, nonostante la vita ti sbatta in faccia quanto sia dura e piena di insidie alla fine i desideri si avverano; che le persone che ami anche se ormai non sono più con noi fisicamente, ci guidano con amore senza lasciarci mai soli e che il vero amore, anche dopo mille viaggi, errori, persone sbagliate, torna sempre a bussare alla nostra porta.
“Se non mi conoscessi, non sapresti mai che ho passato qualcosa di orribile. Perché sono molto brava a nascondermi dietro il mio sorriso. Quindi la prossima volta che vedete qualcuno che supponete abbia una vita migliore della vostra, ricordate che non potete sapere cosa sta passando qualcuno guardandolo.
Potrebbero aver passato qualcosa di angosciante, ma hanno comunque trovato un modo per sorridere. E spero che qualsiasi cosa tu stia passando, tu sappia che non sei solo e che anche tu possa trovare un modo per sorridere”.
Perché quando quegli occhi s’incontrano non c’é niente che li possa fermare.

Dear readers, to break the ice I want to tell you about Penelope Ward’s new book “The Crush”. I must admit that this is the first time that I have ventured into one of her works and to my amazement I was completely overwhelmed.
The story of “The Crush” is set in hot and sunny Florida and everything revolves around the three main characters: Farrah and her brother Nathan and the latter’s best friend Jace.
Page after page, Ward’s smooth and meticulous pen draws you into a whirlwind of emotions and family drama, told from Farrah and Jace’s point of view.
The Red Thread of Fate is love, the purest and most sincere, the one that binds us to a family member, a friend or our first love.
“If I’m coming across as a bit desperate for this man-well, I guess that’s right. But consider the fact that
he was my very first crush. The crush. My only crush.”
I immediately felt connected to Farrah: her pain and her determination to believe with all her might that, despite life throwing in your face how hard it is and full of pitfalls, in the end dreams do come true; that the people you love, even if they are no longer with us physically, guide us with love from above without ever leaving us alone and that true love, even after a thousand journeys, mistakes, wrong people, always
comes knocking at our door.
“If you didn’t know me, you’d never know I’d been through something horrible. Because I’m really good at hiding behind my smile. So the next time you see someone you assume has it better than you do,
remember that you can’t know what someone is going through by looking at them. They might have been
through something agonizing, yet still found a way to smile. And I hope whatever you’re going through, you

Because when those eyes crush into each other there is nothing that can stop them.

È naturale volere quello che non si può avere. E per quanto
potessi ricordare, avevo desiderato segretamente il migliore
amico di mio fratello, Jace.
Aveva sei anni di più e mi ha sempre trattato come la sorella
che non ha mai avuto.
Velocemente passa un decennio.
Ora avevamo tutti vent’anni. Jace si era trasferito da me e mio
fratello Nathan per aiutarci a sbarcare il lunario dopo la morte
dei nostri genitori.
Eravamo solo noi tre, una strana dinamica familiare.
Vivendo sotto il nostro tetto, Jace era prepotente e protettivo
come sempre.
Ma certamente non mi guardava più come una sorella. Era
questo che rendeva le cose così complicate.
Io ero praticamente eccitata e infastidita ventiquattr’ore su
