In un momento storico dove la violenza sulle donne e il femminicidio sono purtroppo all’ordine del giorno, se non dell’ora, il libro di oggi dell’autrice T L Smith “Lovesick” è una speranza, un barlume, per tutte quelle donne, che si sentono intrappolate in un vuoto spesso senza via di uscita.
È una storia d’amore, ma nel senso più ampio del termine: è la forza e l’amore per se stessi della protagonista Keegan che riesce ad andarsene da un matrimonio “malato” fatto di violenza e soprusi, è il grande amore di Khol per Annika e per la sua famiglia, è il primo amore per Macca, quello che non ha mai sperimentato e nel quale non ha mai creduto prima, tutto condito da tinte dark.
“Mi piace il silenzio, è buono, non mi piace riempire il silenzio con conversazioni senza senso che non vanno da nessuna parte o non ottengono nulla, e sono contento che neanche lei lo faccia”.
“Lovesick” è un oceano di amore e disperazione, questi i due elementi che l’autrice riesce a far convivere perfettamente in questo racconto dove le storie vissute dai tre protagonisti, danzano in susseguirsi di presente e flashback e ci fanno capire quanto le parole (forse ultimamente utilizzate in modo smodato e fuori contesto) “resilienza”, “speranza” e “destino” assumano un senso quanto più ci si rapporti con la violenza, la morte, gli abusi.
Tre personaggi così diversi tra loro ma uniti da un’unica grande forza che li alimenta, l’unica che ci fa davvero vivere: l’Amore – malato, folle, totalitario.
“È così che mi sono innamorata di un uomo. Un uomo che era così malato d’amore che avevo paura che mi affogasse in quello stesso oceano in cui si era perso”.
Perché c’è sempre un modo per rialzarsi, per tornare a sorridere… In fondo… oltre la nera cortina della notte c’è sempre un’alba che ci aspetta.

At a time in history where violence against women and feminicide are unfortunately the order of the day, if not the hour, today’s book by author T L Smith “Lovesick” is a hope, a glimmer, for all those women, who feel trapped in a vacuum often with no way out.
It is a love story, but in the broadest sense of the term: it is the strength and self-love of the protagonist Keegan who manages to leave a “sick” marriage made of violence and abuse, it is the great love of Khol for Annika and her family, it is the first love for Macca, what he has never experienced and in which he has never believed before, all seasoned with dark colors.
“I like the silence, it’s good, I don’t like to fill the silence with meaningless conversations that goes nowhere or achieve nothing, and I’m glad she doesn’t either.”
“Lovesick” is an ocean of love and despair, these are the two elements that the author manages to make coexist perfectly in this story where the life experienced by the three protagonists, dance in a succession of present and flashback and make us understand how the words (perhaps lately used inordinately and out of context) “resilience”, “hope” and “destiny” take on a sense the more you deal with violence, death, abuse.
Three characters so different from each other but united by one great force that feeds them, the only one that really makes us live: Love – sick, crazy, totalitarian.
“This was how I fell for a man. A man who was so lovesick, I was afraid he would drown me in that same ocean he was lost in.”
Because there is always a way to get back up, to smile again… After all… beyond the black curtain of night there is always a dawn waiting for us.

Non potevo essere spezzata. Spezzato è quello che era. Spezzata è quello che sarò sempre. Ai suoi occhi, che contenevano così tanta disperazione, che non potevo tenere lo sguardo a lungo.
Al suo pugno, che stringeva così forte, come se stesse rinchiudendo il dolore. Alle sue labbra, che non hanno mai pronunciato una parola, per gli anni di crepacuore.
E nonostante tutto, non riuscivo a stargli lontano. Era come se stesse annegando in un oceano, e io volevo afferrare il suo viso e sussurrargli alle labbra: “Non dimenticare di respirare”.
Fu così che mi innamorai di un uomo. Un uomo che era così malato d’amore che avevo paura che mi affogasse in quello stesso oceano in cui era perso.
